Ham Ninh

Ham Ninh is often mentioned for seafood, especially crab, but the more interesting part is the working coastal settlement itself: boats, small eateries opening for the day and the everyday rhythm of people who still make a living from the sea. The old wooden pier seen in many nostalgic photographs is no longer a reliable landmark for a present-day visit.

How to visit

Around one to two hours is usually enough for a seafood meal and a walk along the waterfront. Going when the sun is softer makes the visit more comfortable, especially if you still have a long drive afterwards. Before ordering seafood, ask whether the price is per piece, per kilogram or per plate, and ask where the seafood comes from if that matters to you. The famous old wooden pier has been removed, so do not use old photographs of it as navigation.

Know before you go

Ham Ninh today no longer looks exactly like the “untouched fishing village” often shown in older travel promotion. Local people still live and work here, but the waterfront, roads and visitor facilities have changed. Treat nostalgic photographs as part of the village's memory, not as a current map of what you will find on arrival.

Before you visit

  • Confirm whether seafood is priced per piece, per kilogram or per plate before ordering.
  • Do not use the former wooden pier as a present-day navigation landmark.
  • Respect working and residential areas along the waterfront; do not enter fenced or private spaces.
  • If you are mainly coming for a meal, consider the heat and the driving time from your accommodation.
