Bai Thom

Bai Thom is a longer, quieter journey into northeastern Phu Quoc, with forested roads and smaller settlements rather than the dense services found on the west coast. Food, fuel and beachside facilities can be limited, so prepare water, fuel and the return plan before leaving the busier parts of the island.

How to visit

Count the return distance as part of the trip, fill the tank and buy enough drinking water while you are still in a well-served area. If you do not know whether food or shelter will be available near the beach that day, ask your accommodation or local residents before setting out. After heavy rain, smaller access roads can become muddy or difficult, so avoid leaving so late that you are still searching for the route near dusk.

Know before you go

Bai Thom has a slower coastal rhythm and far fewer visitor services than the busier beaches on the west side. Travellers who enjoy long drives, forest scenery and self-sufficient outings may appreciate that; anyone who depends on extensive facilities should plan carefully. Limited shops and services are part of the present reality of the area, not something to discover only after arrival.

Before you visit

  • Fill the fuel tank and carry enough drinking water before leaving the more populated areas.
  • Download an offline map in case mobile coverage weakens.
  • Check recent rainfall and the condition of the beach access route close to the day of travel.
  • Do not turn onto unmarked forest tracks or enter restricted areas.
