Phu Quoc tides

The rhythm of the tides can transform the space of a beach in just a few short hours. As the water recedes, rock reefs, mudflats, and coastal life are exposed; seeing a shoal doesn't mean you can stroll away at will.

Check current conditions

If you want to observe marine life at low tide or need to pick up a boat at a small pier, ask about the time of the tide at that point. Don't walk through mudflats, rocks or boat channels just because you see the passage is empty. When getting on and off the canoe, always listen to the safety instructions of the operator.

Things that are easy to miss

The receding water returns a wider strip of sand, but at the same time exposes slippery ledges and vulnerable delicate marine life. Shallow waters are not necessarily safe to walk on. The tide level changes by day and from coordinate to coordinate, and there is absolutely no common "sprint time" for all beaches on the island.

When going out

  • Ask carefully about the tide situation at the beach you plan to visit, especially when traveling with young children.
  • Absolutely do not catch, pick up or move marine creatures stranded in the tidal zone.
  • Avoid stepping on seagrass beds, coral reefs or slippery moss ledges.
  • Follow the exact position of stepping on and off the ship according to the captain's instructions.
