Sea turtles around Phu Quoc
Sea turtles are recorded to live and lay eggs in the waters of Phu Quoc, but touching their eyes in the wild is completely a coincidence. When you are lucky enough to meet a sea turtle, keep a cherished distance and let them swim freely instead of trying to chase just to take a photo.
Check current conditions
If you happen to see a sea turtle swimming, keep a respectful distance and observe their natural movements. Absolutely do not touch, feed and do not drag the turtle on board or ashore to take pictures. If you find a sea turtle caught in a net, injured or washed ashore, immediately report it to the local authorities or a specialized rescue center, do not handle it on your own without expertise.
Things that are easy to miss
Although sea turtles have a history of presence on Pearl Island, that does not guarantee a stable population of turtles, much less does it mean that tourists will encounter turtles during their vacation. Beware of promises of "turtle watching tours" that lack scientific basis. Keeping the beach clean and peaceful is the most practical action to welcome turtles back.
When going out
- Do not book travel services based on advertisements that are 100% committed to meeting sea turtles.
- Turn off strong light sources and keep maximum quiet at the beaches at night.
- Absolutely do not touch, ride, feed or frighten marine species.
- Save the local marine life rescue hotline number to contact when necessary.
