Gas stations
Riding a motorbike around the North Island or walking late at night, the experience is to fill up the gas tank as soon as you are in the crowded central area. There are roads without gas stations or early rest stations, so don't risk letting the gas needle hit the bottom and then rush to find a place to dump.
How to prepare?
Before screwing the throttle for a long journey, glance at the gas tank to see if there is plenty of gas available and locate gas stations along the road. If you drive a rental car, be sure to ask the car owner what gas to fill with the right machine, and always ask for a rescue phone number in case the car is broken. At the station, remember to call the right type of gas, turn off the car carefully and pay attention to safety principles.
Situations to keep in mind
The red dot at the gas station on Google Maps may not have greeted you with bright lights when you arrive. Once you're out of town, it's much more important to target a gas station than to leave it to your fate to wait for the next station. Retail bottles of petrol sold at the grocery store are just a situational solution, not as safe and quality as a standard pumping station.
Before you go
- Fill up the tank in the CBD before conquering long routes.
- Ready a convenient gas station for the time of returning.
- Definitely the right type of gasoline for the car you are renting.
- Absolutely do not puff on a cigarette or use the phone while standing next to the pump.
