Do Phu Quoc dogs really climb trees?

Phu Quoc dogs are famous for their extremely agile and flexible nature; some excellent individuals after being trained through training furnaces can demonstrate their skills in overcoming obstacles and climbing as quickly as monkeys. However, from seeing some good circus dogs and hurriedly shouting that "the whole Phu Quoc dog family has a special talent for climbing trees" is indeed an over-the-top inference; because jumping over a log that stands in the way is far away from the sky with the ability to swing and scratch to climb up a vertical tree trunk.

When you stand with your mouth open and watch dogs show off their climbing skills at professional training camps, you should soberly recognize that it is the result of the reflexes of individuals who have been forced into the framework of intense training. You can completely ask the trainers to share about the teaching methods and what protective gear is used to keep the dogs' lives safe during the circus. Never do something stupid like shouting, forcing a strange dog to suddenly swing up a tall tree just to satisfy the verification of an unfounded rumor that you overheard somewhere.

Understanding the story in context

There are indeed a few rare sources of information that record some Phu Quoc dogs showing superb climbing abilities, but that little bit of material is still too inferior to be able to prove that every dog born on this island naturally inherits that water spider superpower. That tough climbing ability is also absolutely not the only measure for the judges to identify this noble dog breed. What you observe with your eyes in the confined premises at a training camp must be conveyed by the narrator within its narrow limits, not exaggerated.

If you visit

  • Never shout, provoke or use bait, force dogs to climb dangerously tall tree branches, or force them to repeat a circus performance outside of the lesson plan.
  • Keep an eye on the technical measures that the trainer applies to keep the dog's body safe.
  • Question the instructor to discern which behaviors are the result of intentional training, and which are the animal's naturally awakening wild instincts.
  • Remember: Neither the backswing on the back nor the ape-like climbing talent have the independent legal standing to stand as steel evidence confirming the purebredness of this breed.
