Taking a motorbike to Phu Quoc: reserve its space before departure

A passenger ticket does not automatically reserve space for your motorbike. Confirm vehicle capacity, fees and loading procedures before travelling to Phu Quoc.

Exploring Phu Quoc on your own motorbike can be appealing, but each ferry operator and sailing handles vehicles differently. Check that the trip accepts your bike and reserve its place when planning, not at the pier.

Select a pick-up ride

High-speed trains should not be assumed to only carry people, nor should they be accepted by default on every trip. Some high-speed boats accept motorbikes with a limited number of seats; while high-speed ferries can carry both motorbikes, cars, and cargo depending on the brand. Therefore, before buying a passenger ticket, check the right brand, the right route, the right type of vehicle and ask if there is room for the vehicle. For cars, you need to choose a ferry with pick-up; for motorbikes, both high-speed boats and ferries can be optional options.

Ask three things when booking

When loading and contacting the shipping company or ferry, clearly provide the departure date, sector, vehicle segment/type, and total number of passengers. Don't forget to ask carefully what the booking process is for the car, what the paperwork is required and how long you need to be at the port before departure. Always remember to keep all booking confirmation codes for both passengers and vehicles. In case of traveling in a group with multiple vehicles, inform the specific number at the beginning so that the airline can arrange and check the capacity.

Don't forget the return trip

The operating schedule of ships and ferries may be postponed or changed due to the influence of weather, tides or operating adjustments from the airline. Before the departure date, it is never superfluous to double-check the information of the trip and return trip on the official channels. If you choose to run out of seats for motorbikes, you still have option B: leave the car at the parking lot on the mainland, buy a train ticket to the island and then rent a motorbike in Phu Quoc. Don't forget to consider the total cost of parking and the time to travel to the port to choose the right option.
