Rach Vem: keep starfish in the water
Rach Vem is known for orange-red starfish visible through clear shallows, but sightings depend on tide, weather and season.
On some days, scores of bright starfish can be seen beneath the shallow water at Rach Vem; on others, changing tide and waves leave the shore empty. If you encounter them, admire and photograph them where they are, under water.

Conspicuous sprints, also vulnerable
At times of low sprint, starfish are clearly visible on the fine sand, but this is also when they are most vulnerable if the viewer accidentally steps on them. Walk carefully, pay attention to each step and keep a cherished distance. You can ask the locals to choose the most ideal viewing area without disturbing their ecosystem.
Starfish breathe through delicate skin spines and are completely dependent on the water environment. The act of lifting starfish out of the water to take a photo or hold it can cause them to suffocate and die very quickly. Photos of starfish shimmering under crystal clear water always bring the most natural and civilized beauty.
Rach Vem still has things to see
Whether you meet a starfish or not, Rach Vem still possesses a peaceful charm with coastal fishing villages, floating culinary rafts and a road through the shady forest of the North Island. The road to Rach Vem has a red dirt road that can be muddy after rain, so consulting traffic conditions in advance will help you have a complete and safe journey.
