Ganh Dau
Ganh Dau covers a broad area in the island's northwest, where local settlements, forest, beaches and large tourism complexes sit within the same wider district. Because it is a long way from central Duong Dong, it usually makes more sense to devote at least half a day - and often a full day - to the north rather than treat it as a quick detour.
How to visit
If you plan to combine places such as Safari or Grand World on the same day, account for both driving time and the time you will actually spend inside each place. Ganh Dau is geographically broad, so search for the exact beach, cape, resort or attraction rather than using the district name alone. Places that look close on a map can still have separate gates and access roads.
Know before you go
Beyond the resorts and major attractions, Ganh Dau still includes fishing communities, quiet stretches of coast and forested areas. From some viewpoints you may be able to look across towards Cambodian waters, but not every piece of coastline or forest road is open to visitors. Use recognised public access routes rather than turning onto unfamiliar tracks simply because they appear to lead towards the sea.
Before you visit
- Arrange north-island stops in a logical route to avoid unnecessary backtracking.
- Distinguish the wider Ganh Dau area from Mui Ganh Dau and from individual beaches within the district.
- Stay on public roads and do not enter forest tracks or restricted areas without permission.
- If you plan to return to central Phu Quoc the same day, allow extra time for the evening drive back.
